The label home of the late, great José Afonso.
José Afonso (1929–1987) is the voice of modern Portuguese song. His “Grândola, Vila Morena” was the signal for the Carnation Revolution of 25 April 1974, and his songs are still sung wherever people gather.
Mais 5 was created through a licensing deal between the Estate of José Afonso and Lusitanian Music. Since 2021 it has been bringing his out-of-print albums back on CD and LP, newly remastered, and making them legitimately available on streaming platforms around the world for the first time, on the road to the centenary of his birth in 2029.
